Return Policy – Basic Information
A return policy is a binding document that regulates the legal relationship between the seller and the customer, specifying when, how, and under what conditions the customer can return a product. For businesses, especially those selling online, the right to return is crucial for both protecting the consumer and fulfilling the business's legal obligations.
According to Turkish legislation, consumers have the right to withdraw from distance sales within 14 days without giving any reason. If this right is exercised, the conditions for product return and refund must be clearly stated.
A return policy helps both to inform the consumer and to protect the company from potential disputes.
Elements That Should Be Included in the Return Policy
Generally, a return policy should include the following headings:
Return period: The legal 14-day withdrawal period starts from the date of delivery of the product.
Return conditions: The product must be unused, in resalable condition, and in its original packaging.
Return process: How to notify cancellation (email, form, etc.), return shipping procedure.
Return shipping fee: Who is responsible for the shipping fee in cases where the right of withdrawal is exercised.
Refund after return: The refund period is (legally, a maximum of 14 days) after the returned product has been approved.
Non-returnable items: Custom-made items, items that cannot be returned due to hygiene reasons, etc.
Process for missing/damaged products: Steps to be followed if the customer discovers that the product is damaged or incomplete upon delivery.
